Welcome!

As you pass by an idea you want, you should beg for it. Borrow it. Or even steal it. This blog is all about things you will want to beg for, borrow, and/or steal! No worries! There is no penalty for stealing - Rather I'm excited to share my ideas! Many of these ideas and inspirations I've "stolen" from other places.

Check Writing Activity

In accounting I created personalized checks for my students on the computer and then printed and assembled them into a checkbook. See the following link for the form I created (the formatting is not perfect when I uploaded it to google drive, so email me if you want the Microsoft Word version): Student Checks. We used these check books to complete the following activity to practice check writing and maintaining a checking account balance using check stubs. The students found this to be a fun and interactive activity, plus they were excited to receive small prizes and candy of course.
1.      Have the students bring some kind of an item to "sell" to the class (candy, small prize, etc)
2.      Have the studnets set a price for their item that is between $5 and $100 but not a whole dollar amount (it must include cents).
3.     Then have the students create a sign that indicates a store name, what they are selling, and for how much.
4.      Maker sure the students number their checks starting with check #100, and enter a beginning balance on their first check stub ($1,000.00)
6.       Once the students havee the prep work done, they go around to the rest of their classmates and purchase 1 item from every person by filling out a check and completing the check stub.

7.       Once they have bought an item from every student, they return to their own station and complete a restrictive endorsement on the back of each check they received.

Keyboarding Magnet Tournament

In my exploratory keyboarding class we always have a double elimination keyboarding tournament to practice the QWERTY keyboard order. The students simply go head to head arranging magnetic letters and numbers in order on the board.
